Goggins To Discuss 'Under Attack' Halls

A DUP delegation will meet with the direct rule security minister later today to discuss a spate of recent sectarian attacks on Orange Halls.

Paul Goggins is expected to hear about particular acts of vandalism in Rasharkin and Dunloy, both of which are in the north Co Antrim area.

Democratic Unionist assemblyman Mervyn Storey said he will highlight dissident republican elements he believes are behind the incidents.

Mr Storey said dissidents in the area are attempting to increase local tensions and intimidate Protestants.

He said members of the unionist community feel "vulnerable and isolated".

There has been several targeted attacks on facilities used by both sections of the community within the last month, among them Catholic churches.

Mr Storey said: "Specifically, I will be looking for funding to be made available for CCTV to protect Orange Halls and identify perpetrators of arson or vandalism attacks.

"People in Dunloy and Rasharkin want to live in peace: I hope the security minister will detail for me what steps he plans to take to allow that to happen."
