Underwater search and recovery operation postponed

Poor weather has again hampered the underwater search for the bodies of three missing members of the Greene family.

Police divers who were searching for the bodies of Michael Green, his son and his grandson postponed their search on Monday because of bad weather conditions.

An exclusion zone has been placed around the wreckage of the boat and police have told amateur divers to keep away from what is now a crime scene.

Police have yet to establish why the boat sank and whether it was struck by a larger vessel.

Divers are expected to use specialist underwater equipment on Tuesday, weather permitting, to film the wreckage and examine the boat in detail. Afterwards, divers will begin removing parts of the wreckage to see if the bodies are inside.

Police divers had previously begun to search at the weekend for the three bodies but had to call off the operation due to high winds and rough seas.

Wreckage from the sunken sea vessel, the Tullaghmurray Lass was discovered off the coast of Kilkeel on Friday. The boat, carrying three generations of the one family had left Kilkeel harbour on February 14 on a prawn fishing trip but never returned.

A search ship discovered the wreck of the Tullaghmurray Lass lying on the seabed seven miles off Kilkeel.

The boat-parts were discovered by the Ken Vickers, using sonar equipment and were positively identified by the family.
