Queen's Festival To Brighten Autumn

The famous Belfast Festival at Queen's has launched its programme for this year's event.

Backed by Ulster Bank, the festival will run from October 16 to 31 at venues across the city and promises to brighten-up the long, dark evenings of Autumn.

Festival Director Graeme Farrow commented in suitably upbeat manner: "This year's huge collection of international talent is mouth-watering.

"It's hard to imagine a better opening weekend than one which includes Valery Gergiev with the Mariinsky Orchestra and our own Ulster Orchestra with Seamus Heaney and Michael Longley," he enthused.

Professor Ellen Douglas-Cowie, Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the host location, Queen's University also said the line-up is very diverse: "The content and subjects portrayed address topics such as the recession and women in work, changes in policing, religious and sexual intolerance and the Holocaust.

"There is hard hitting drama, laugh out loud comedy, invigorating music, mind-blowing dance and a series of exquisite talks and tours."
