Commercial insurance businesses provide or arrange insurance designed to protect organisations against financial losses arising from their activities, property and legal responsibilities. Customers may include sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, charities and public-sector organisations. Some firms underwrite policies themselves, while brokers and other intermediaries assess a business's needs and arrange cover from insurers. Common products include employers' liability, public and product liability, professional indemnity, commercial property, business interruption, commercial motor and fleet insurance. Other cover may protect stock, tools, equipment, goods in transit or against cyber incidents. The cover available and the risks insured depend on the policy terms, the type of business and its circumstances. Employers' liability insurance is generally required by law when a business has employees, subject to limited exemptions.
