Driving Schools, Northern Ireland

Driving schools provide instruction to people learning to drive, as well as to qualified drivers who want to refresh or improve their skills. Lessons are usually given by an instructor in a dual-control car, allowing the instructor to intervene if needed. Learners can often choose between manual and automatic vehicles, and lessons may be arranged individually or in longer sessions. Tuition commonly covers vehicle controls, road positioning, observation, manoeuvres, junctions and driving in different traffic and weather conditions. Instructors help learners prepare for the theory and practical driving tests, including hazard perception and independent driving. Some schools offer intensive courses, motorway or refresher lessons, and support for drivers returning to the road. In Great Britain, instructors who charge for driving instruction must be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency as approved driving instructors or trainee instructors.
