Car Insurance, Northern Ireland

Car insurance businesses provide or arrange cover for cars used on public roads and, in some cases, for vehicles kept off the road. They may be insurers offering policies directly, or brokers and comparison services that help customers find cover from different providers. In the UK, motor insurance must normally include at least third-party cover for vehicles used on roads. Insurers and insurance intermediaries are generally regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Policies commonly include third-party cover, which covers liability for injury or damage caused to others; third-party, fire and theft; and comprehensive cover, which can also cover damage to the policyholder's own car. The scope of cover, excesses and exclusions vary between policies. Customers may also be able to add options such as breakdown assistance, legal expenses cover, windscreen repair or replacement, and a courtesy car following an insured claim.
