Architects, Northern Ireland

Architects plan and design buildings and other spaces, balancing a client's needs with site conditions, planning policy, building regulations, accessibility, safety and environmental considerations. Their work may cover new homes, extensions, renovations, commercial premises and public buildings. Services often begin with feasibility studies, surveys and concept designs, then develop into drawings and specifications suitable for planning applications and construction. Depending on the project and the agreed scope, an architect may coordinate other consultants, advise on materials and construction methods, prepare tender information, assess contractors' proposals and monitor work on site. They can also help with listed buildings, conservation areas and changes to the use of a building. In the UK, the title "architect" is protected by law: people using it in business must be registered with the Architects Registration Board.
