Residents Flee Building Site Blaze
Over 150 firefighters were called to a building site in Peckham after a major fire broke out and spread to several blocks of flats and a pub.
Approximately 150 residents were evacuated from their homes in the early hours of this morning.
At the height of the blaze the whole of a building site in Carisbrooke Gardens was on fire, and it then spread to two adjacent residential blocks, Carisbrooke Gardens on the Willowbrook Estate and Oak Court on the North Peckham estate.
Four people were taken to King's College Hospital, mainly suffering from smoke inhalation, although none are said to be seriously hurt.
A rest centre has been established by Southwark Council at the Elephant and Castle leisure centre to receive those who have had to leave their homes.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
