Woman Dead After Stand-off With Gunman
It has just emerged that a woman's body has been found in Canterbury following a stand-off between a gunman and police in a supermarket.
Officers at a flat opened fire on a man in Morrisons in Ten Perch Road, Canterbury, Kent, at 8.40pm last night.
The gunman was wounded in the arm by a single bullet from a police marksman after apparently refusing to obey orders to put the weapon down.
Kent Police have now said that after the shooting, the body of a woman was found in a flat in the city early this morning.
The death is being treated as suspicious and police are waiting to talk to the man who is currently in hospital receiving treatment for his arm.
Meanwhile, the man arrested in not thought to be in a life-threatening condition and the two incidents are being linked.
It is thought that the man was seen waving the firearm in the supermarket - but did not threaten anyone - at that time.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been informed, a spokesman told the BBC: "The IPCC deployed investigators to the scene of a non-fatal police shooting in Canterbury, Kent, yesterday evening.
"The IPCC was informed of the incident by Kent Police shortly after 9pm.
"Investigators began an initial assessment into the circumstances of the shooting."
The police meanwhile have asked for anyone with information to contact them on 01622 690690 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
