Teens Sentenced To Life
Two teenagers who murdered a man in a 'frenzied' attack have been jailed for life. Carl Marshall and Bret Atkins, both 19, were given minimum sentences of 19 and 21 years respectively. Hull Crown Court heard how the pair set upon Simon Ash, 35, of East Hull, on a walkway near the city's Millennium Footbridge on 7 April. The pair savagely beat and kicked the victim before stealing his mobile phone and leaving him to die. Marshall of Buckingham Street, Hull, and Atkins of Hampshire Street in the city, both pleaded guilty to murder.
Jailed Over 'The X Factor'
A Pub Brawl believed to have started over The X Factor has seen the men involved jailed for two years. Kevin Brannan and Christopher McCabe were found guilty of attacking Grant Morrison and John Goldie at a pub in Newarthill, North Lanarkshire. Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that a Christmas night out at Bar Mango in December 2007 ended in violence. Brannan told the court that he had been outside the pub with other members of the works party when X Factor and that year's winner, Leon Jackson, had been discussed. He claimed a female member of the group had said that Leon Jackson had deserved to win the show and he admitted he had clashed with Mr Morrison after he entered the discussion. The court heard that in the brawl that followed "all hell broke loose" and bar stools, chairs, pool cues and cider bottles were thrown.
Fire Kills 81-Year-Old
An 81-year-old woman has died in a fire in a bedroom of a house in Cardiff. Fire crews were called to the property in Llangranog Road in Llanishen on Monday. The blaze, which is not thought to be suspicious, was confined to a bedroom where Kathleen Fisher's body was found. A fire service spokesperson said: "This tragic incident serves as a reminder at this time of year to all homeowners to ensure that their property has working smoke alarms fitted."
Charity Targeted By Thieves
According to Charity officials in Lincolnshire thieves are starting young. It is believed children are being put through the hatches of recycling banks to steal second-hand clothing. A recycling bank containing Oxfam donations at Morrisons' car park, in Wainfleet Road, Skegness, has been targeted five times since July. The practice has been described as "extremely dangerous" and police said lives could be at risk. Oxfam officials said their shops were suffering due to the stolen donations. Eight bags of charity clothing were stolen in the latest incident on Friday.
Kidnappers Jailed
A builder and his son who kidnapped a mother and her two-year-old daughter have been jailed. The pair held the mother and child hostage over a dispute concerning an unpaid bill. Anthony Scaife and his son Matthew tied up the pair in a workshop in North Yorkshire and told her husband they would be killed unless he paid £20,000. Mr Scaife, 53, was jailed for 12 years and his son, Matthew, 26, was jailed for 10 years at Bradford Crown Court. They were jailed after pleading guilty to conspiracy to kidnap last month.

An east London teenager has been jailed for a minimum of 20 years for the murder of a Hackney shop manager. Kobina Essel, 19, murdered Matalan worker Jamie Simpson on 22 April 2008. Essel was jailed along with three other males, who were convicted of manslaughter. Anthony Maina, 20, of no fixed address was jailed for six years.

A paedophile who walked free from court after his teenage victim was branded "predatory" has been ordered by judges at the Court of Appeal to serve a two-year jail sentence. Neil Wilson, 40, was handed a suspended sentence in august.

A man and woman who tortured a pregnant teenager with learning difficulties have been jailed for a total of 17 years. Lee Holt, 27, and Donna O'Neill, 21, both from Aberdeen, lured nineteen-year-old Tammy McGregor - who had a mental age of 12 - to a flat in the city where she was tortured for two-and-a-half hours.

Man Jailed Over Stun Gun Possession
A drug dealer who kept a stun gun at his home in Southampton has been jailed for five years. Wesley Walters, 26, from Rampart Road, was arrested in September 2013 as part of Operation Fortress. When detectives searched his property they found the firearm disguised as a mobile phone in the back of a drawer.
