Man Held Over Teen Murder
Police in Reading are continuing to question a man over the death of a teenager, whose body was found close to a river on Monday night.
The 19-year-old was detained by officers yesterday.
Asha Muneer, 18, was murdered not far from her place of work on the Brunel Retail Park in the Berkshire town.
Her body was discovered by a passing jogger next to the Kennet River. A postmortem examination later revealed she had died from multiple stab wounds.
Miss Muneer's family, and friends at Highdown School in Caversham, Reading, have been informed of her death.
Detective Superintendent Karen Trego, of Thames Valley Police, said her officers were continuing to keep an open mind over the motive.
"I appreciate that this incident is of great concern for the Reading community and I would like to reassure them that a team of detectives working on the investigation are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry."
DS Trego added: "This is obviously a deeply distressing time for those who knew and loved Asha and I ask that the privacy of her family, school friends and work colleagues is respected."
Detectives believe Miss Muneer may have been mugged.
The crime scene remains sealed and officers are studying CCTV footage of the area.
