Ban On UK/Yemen Flights

Gordon Brown has imposed an immediate ban on all UK bound flights from Yemen.

The Prime Minister took the decision in the wake of an attempted terrorist attack on board a US plane in December.

Fears are continuing to grow round apparent increased radicalism in Yemen.

The man accused of plotting the Detroit incident is believed to have spent time in the Arabic state.

In a statement to the House of Commons, Mr Brown also announced the creation of two new terror 'watch lists'.

These will form part of a package of measures aimed at beefing up border security.

He said the measures would ensure that individuals "posing the greatest risk" could not travel to the UK.

"It is because we fully recognise the global nature of the terrorist threat we face today that our response must be truly global," said the PM.

"Some of the intelligence we need to protect our people against attacks will be here in Britain, some will be held by our international partners and passed to us, just as we help them with information about the threats they face."
