Football Ban For 'Racists'

Two men from Blackburn have been banned from attending football matches for three years.

Graham Kendal, 26, of Heys Lane, Blackburn and Anthony Thomas Sutcliffe, 22, of Exchange Street, Blackburn were given the orders following court appearances at Wigan Magistrates Court.

During the match between Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers on Saturday 26 December 2009, at the DW Stadium, Kendal and Sutcliffe were heard to shout racist chants.

Police Constable Neil Shacklock, of Wigan's Football Intelligence Unit, said: "The behaviour of these people give true football fans a bad name and they are a disgrace to the vast majority of genuine fans who simply want to enjoy football.

"I hope these successful prosecutions go some way to warn other people who feel that racist chanting is acceptable, It is not and there will be consequences for behaviour like this."
