Bulger Murderer Back In Prison
One of the killers of toddler James Bulger was last night back behind bars.
Jon Venables, who was convicted of the heinous murder along with Robert Thompson, is believed to have breached the terms of his release.
The murderer, now 27, carried out a sustained attack on two year, after abducting him from a Merseyside shopping centre in 1993.
Venables and Thompson left the child's mutilated body on train tracks. The adolescents were later convicted and sentenced to a minimum of eight years each.
They were given new identities for their own safety and strict reporting guidance was given to the press regarding their new lives.
Police and judiciary officials have not revealed the reason for Venables' return to prison.
James' mother Denise Fergus, who has been a longtime campaigner for justice, is not believed to know the reason either.
Home Secretary Alan Johnson said he could not elaborate on what happened.
"You know I cannot say anything more than confirm the fact that Jon Venables is back in custody," he said.
"I talked to Jack Straw earlier on today, the Justice Secretary, and of course we understand that the public want to know more about this.
"At this stage I'm afraid I can't say anything more. There is a worldwide injunction on Jon Venables in relation to his new identity.
"There is also a process to be gone through. So at this stage I cannot say anything more than you already know. Which is to confirm the fact that he is back in custody.
"I would expect more information to be available at some stage."
