PM Welcomes NI Justice Deal

Gordon Brown has praised the Northern Ireland Assembly's decision to back the historic Hillsborough Castle Agreement. The deal will see justice powers placed in the hands of local politicians for the first time in 38 years. Eighty-eight of the province's MLAs voted in favour of the accord. Three of Stormont's 108 Assembly members abstained from voting, with 17 others opposing the motion. Prime Minister Brown said politics of division has now been replaced by progressive thinking.

Flats Death Teen Held

A teenager charged with the murder of a girl whose body was found near a block of flats is to remain in custody. The body of ex-convent schoolgirl Jessie Wright, 16, was found in a derelict yard, north of King's Cross Station in London. At an Old Bailey hearing held in his absence, it was ordered that Zakk Sackett, 19, be held in custody.

Toyota Jobs Lost

Around 150 jobs are expected to disappear at Deeside's Toyota factory as part of wider cuts across the UK which will see around 750 posts being axed in total. The car maker, which employs about 3,500 people at its two UK plants, said all redundancies will be voluntary. Staff will return to full-time working from April, after a year of a 10% reduction in hours and pay.

Landlord Liz 'Depressed'

A top TV soap star has teamed up with mental health charity Mind to raise awareness of mental health issues. Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard revealed she has been receiving treatment for depression. The 52-year-old actress, who plays Rovers landlady Liz McDonald, was absent from the soap for five months last year after a "serious breakdown". She was treated at the Priory Clinic at the time and remains an outpatient at the facility.

Mine Alert

Bomb disposal experts will be carrying out a controlled explosion tomorrow on a German World War II mine found in Portland Harbour in Dorset. Coastguards said a survey vessel with sonar equipment located the "huge" device on the seabed in the middle of the harbour on Tuesday afternoon. The one-tonne parachute mine was set to be moved and disposed of on Wednesday but windy weather delayed the operation, coastguards said.

Couple Found Dead At House In County Down
A man and his wife have been found dead at a house in south Down in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The couple, who were in their late 30s, were found at the house at Edentrumly Road in Mayobridge, just outside Newry, shortly before 1.00am. A police spokeswoman said that a legally held firearm was recovered from the house.

77 Years For Rochdale Child Sex Gang
The nine men found guilty of operating a child sexual exploitation ring have been jailed for a total of 77 years. The trial, which ended on Tuesday, heard how the men groomed young vulnerable girls in Rochdale.

A man who raped a 12-week-old baby girl has had his minimum jail term increased from six years to eight years by the Court of Appeal.

Reward Doubled In 2002 Murder Investigation
A reward being offered for information on the murder of a man in 2002 has been doubled following an appeal on the Crimewatch program. Shaun James (32), from the Forest of Dean, was found dead twelve years ago shortly after leaving his local pub in Cinderford. At the time police thought Mr James had died in a hit-and-run accident.
