Robbers Make Off With Rings Haul
Four men are believed to have stolen thousands of pounds of rings from a man in Park Street in St Albans yesterday morning.
Police said a male victim was followed from Brown and Newirth Ltd in Beaconsfield Road, Hatfield to Park Street by the men driving a blue or turquoise T-reg Toyota Avensis.
Detective Sergeant Nina Winfield said when the man got out of his car at the junction with Park Street Lane and Gidian Court, one of the offenders – described as being of Eastern European appearance, 5 ft 8 and aged between 30 and 35 - hit him in the face and stole his black sports holdall containing the rings.
The man was not seriously injured but was left shaken by the robbery.
"We would like to speak to anyone who was in Beaconsfield Road in Hatfield or the Gidian Court area of Park Street this morning and saw anything suspicious," said DS Winfield.
The main offender joined the other two men, who were waiting outside and the driver, and they drove off towards Park Street Lane and the Tippendale Lane junction.
The other men are described as being of Eastern European appearance, aged between 25 and 30 and they were all dressed in jeans and jackets. One was also wearing a red and yellow bandana.
Police said members of the public should be aware of being offered cheap rings.
The company targetted specialises in wedding and occasion rings. The stolen bag contained about 450 rings included some in white gold, yellow gold and diamonds.
