Teen Gets Life for Sisters' Arson Murders
A teenager who took revenge on his ex-girlfriend for dumping him by setting fire to her house, killing both her and her older sister, has been jailed for life.
Akmol Miah, 15, was found guilty of murdering Maleha Masud, 15, and her 21-year-old sister Nabiha, who died after the fire at their home in Tooting, south London, last June.
During the trial, the court heard how Miah, who was 14 at the time of the fatal fire, had threatened Maleha that he would "do something to her and her family" if she ended their relationship.
He had also searched on Google for "how to burn someone's house down", the day before the fire.
Maleha died three days after the fire, while Nabiha died a month later. The girls' mother Rubina, 55, and brothers Zain, 24, and Junaid, 18, were all injured in the blaze, but survived.
Miah, of Broadway Avenue, Croydon, was jailed for a minimum of 23 years at the Old Bailey today. His cousin, waiter Shihabouddin Choudhurym 21, from Nottingham, was also jailed for life. He had helped Miah to start the fatal fire by pouring petrol through the letterbox and setting light to it.
Both were found guilty of the murder of the two sisters and the attempted murders of their mother and two brothers.
