Pedestrian Killed On M6
Police have launched an investigation after a pedestrian was found dead on the M6 near Carlisle. Officers were called to the scene around 4:30am, when a motorist reported seeing a pedestrian lying on the southbound carriageway, just south of junction 44. It is believed that the person had been hit by at least one vehicle and the incident is being treated as a fail-to-stop collision.The M6 southbound was closed between junctions 44 and 43, with diversions in place through Carlisle. Motorists travelling south from Scotland were advised to avoid the Carlisle area. Police are trying to identify the pedestrian and have appealed for anyone who was on that stretch of motorway to contact them on: 0845 33 00 247.
Newcastle City Centre Death Blamed on Fall
Police in Newcastle have confirmed that a 20-year-old man found injured in the city centre died as the result of a fall. The man was found in Westgate Road, near the entrance to the High Level Bridge, around 3:40am. He was taken to hospital, but died later from his injuries. Police initially believed that he had been attacked, and had appealed for information, but a post-mortem revealed that his injuries were the result of a fall. A police spokesperson said: "This appears to have been a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family at this terrible time."
Two Arrested Over Leicester Chip Shop Murder
Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of man who suffered fatal injuries in an attack outside a Leicester chip shop. Police were called to the shop on Saffron Lane around 9:15pm on Monday, following reports that a man was being assaulted outside. Officers found Jagjit Singh, 43, injured and he was taken to hospital where he later died. He is believed to have been stabbed. A 27-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both from Leicester, were arrested on suspicion of murder in nearby Clifton Road shortly afterwards. Clifton Road, between Saffron Lane and New Park Road, has been cordoned off for forensic examinations to be carried out, while officers have spoken to a number of witnesses and are carrying out house-to-house enquiries. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Police Investigating If Woman Was Trying To Save Dog When She Was Hit By Train
British Transport Police investigating the death of a woman have said that she may have been trying to save a dog when she was hit by a train. The 22-year-old woman was struck by a train close to Ainsdale station near Southport, Merseyside at about 15:00 on Wednesday. Transport police said a dog was also found dead at the scene.

An investigation is underway following the discovery of the bodies of a woman and two children at a house in Stoke-on-Trent. Police say they made the discovery after being called to an address in Sherwin Road at about 18:35 on Sunday. A woman and two children were pronounced dead at the scene. No details of the victims have yet been released.

Police on the Isle of Wight are trying to identify a man found dead in a kayak earlier this month. The man's body was found at Yaverland Beach, Sandown, at about 19:20 on Friday, 11 September. It is understood that he was last seen alive in Newhaven, Sussex.
