Wikileaks Whistleblower Arrested
The Metropolitan Police have arrested the founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange on a European arrest warrant from Swedish authorities.
The 39-year-old Australian was arrested at 9.30am at a London police station an is accused of one count of rape, one of unlawful coercion and two counts of sexual molestation, alleged to have been committed in August 2010.
He denies the allegations and is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court later.
Mark Stephens, Mr Assange's lawyer, has criticised the Swedish prosecutors, saying Mr Assange had been offering to meet since August.
Its is believed that a warrant, issued last month, had not been filled in correctly.
Mr Stephens said: "It's about time we got to the end of the day and we got some truth, justice and rule of law.
"Julian Assange has been the one in hot pursuit to vindicate himself to clear his good name."
In the last week, Mr Assange has come under fire for publishing politically sensitive revelations on Wikileaks, a move heavily criticised by the British and American governments.
Wikileaks was forced to switch to a Swiss host server after several US internet service providers refused to handle it. It has also come under cyber attack.

Swedish prosecutors will go ahead with their appeal against bail for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange this Thursday at the High Court. Mr Assange, 39, was granted bail yesterday in London. The Australian is currently fighting extradition to Sweden, where he is accused of sexually assaulting two women.

Met Police End Presence Outside Wikileaks Founder's Refuge
A police presence outside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has claimed asylum, is to be withdrawn, the Met Police have announced. Officers have been stationed outside the building since Mr Assange sought asylum to avoid being extradited to Sweden over a rape allegation in June 2012.
