Jodi Jones Killer's Sentence Appeal Refused
An appeal to reduce the minimum term of a life sentence of convicted murderer Luke Mitchell has been refused.
In 2003 the 22-year-old was given a minimum jail term of 20 years after he was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend Jodi Jones.
The appeal for the minimum term to be reduced, on the grounds that Mitchell was only 14 years old when he committed the murder, was rejected by judges with a majority vote.
In 2008 a previous appeal against his actual conviction was also refused.
Jodi Jones, 14, was found dead in woodland close to Dalkeith in Midlothian.
Mitchell, then 16, denied the murder but was found guilty at the Edinburgh High Court in 2005.
The Lord Justice Clerk Lord Gill, who heard the case said: "The order of the court is that this appeal is refused."
Leaving court, Mitchell's mother Corinne Mitchell, said: "The fight goes on. We're not finished yet."
