Milly Dowler Killer Refused Appeal
The man who was jailed for killing Milly Dowler has been refused permission to appeal against his conviction.
Levi Bellfield was given a whole-life sentence last year after being found guilty of abducting and then killing Milly.
Today Bellfield's appeal bid was heard by the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Judge, Mr Justice Wyn Williams and Mr Justice Maddison.
The grounds of the appeal were in regards to the fact that the trial’s judge allowed evidence from past convictions to go before the jury. It was argued that the evidence was used to distort the jury’s verdict in regard to the murder of Milly. But the Lord Judge said that the jury reached a “clear conclusion”.
Bellfield, a former bouncer, was already serving a whole-life term for the murders of Amelie Delagrange and Marsha McDonnell, and the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy, when he went on trial at the Old Bailey last year.
Thirteen-year-old Milly disappeared a decade ago as she walked home in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. Her body was found six months after her disappearance in Hampshire.
