Appeal Following Fatal Collision In Kingston
Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Kingston. Officers were called at approximately 16:40hrs on Friday 8 April to reports of a road traffic collision in Fairfields South, Kingston. At this stage it is believed a motorcycle was travelling along Fairfields South when it lost control near the junction with Dudley Road. It is not thought any other vehicle was involved in the collision. London Ambulance Service (LAS) and HEMS also attended the scene and a man, aged 50, was taken to St Georges Hospital suffering injuries. He died in hospital on Saturday 9 April. Next of kin have been informed and the deceased has been formally identified as Marc Cleverly, from Chessington. A post mortem is still to be scheduled. Anyone with information are urged to contact officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit based at Hampton Traffic Garage.
Home Office Named Top Employer For Women
The Home Office has been named in Times Top 50 for female workers. The Times supplement, in partnership with gender equality campaign Opportunity Now, features a list of 50 organisations that support women in the workplace. To make the top fifty, the Home Office was rigourously scored on how it engages and consults with women, and what is in place to support them in terms of flexible working and childcare policies. The department is unique to government in being led by three women - Home Secretary Theresa May, Permanent Secretary Helen Ghosh and non-executive Director Val Gooding. In a Times interview, Helen Ghosh explained that the flexible working that she has always enjoyed as a civil servant has been really important to her career. She said: “It helps us to attract the best talent and set the right direction. We can’t lecture other organisations but we can lead by example.”
Weather Set Fair For The London Marathon
Met Office forecasters are predicting mainly dry and fine conditions as the London Marathon gets underway this Sunday. Weather conditions are likely to suit both spectators and elite runners alike during the morning, with some sunshine and temperatures in the mid teens. However, it is expected to warm up during the day with temperatures peaking in the high teens in the afternoon for fun runners. Elsewhere around the UK, temperatures will be well above average through the weekend, reaching the mid to high teens in places. Scattered showers are possible in some central and western regions.

Police numbers reach record levels
Police numbers in England and Wales have reached record high levels of more than 141,000, the Home Office has reported. The number of police officers has increased by more than 2,000 since March 2004 to 141,230.

The victim of a fatal collision in Walthamstow has been identified as 26-year-old Trang Hoang. Police were called to reports of a collision around 10pm on Wednesday 1 June in Markhouse Avenue at the junction with Markhouse Road in east London.

Unlicensed Minicab Driver Jailed For Killing Passenger
An unlicensed minicab driver has been jailed for eight years for causing the death of a passenger. Matab Uddin, 59, of Blackshots Lane, Essex was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and fraud. The court heard how police were called on Sunday, 17 November 2013 at about 1:45am to reports of a man injured on Essex Road.

Police officers across England and Wales could soon be armed with Taser stun guns, under new plans. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith announced that front-line staff in all 43 forces will be trained to use the weapons, which are currently only used by small units of firearms officers.

Police Lose High Court Pay Battle
Police officers have lost their High Court battle for a 2.5% pay rise to be paid in full. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith refused to implement their pay award in full, which has led to bitterness among the ranks. The Police Federation said that Ms Smith has acted unlawfully.
