S4C Chairman Appointed

Former Chief Executive of the Welsh language channel S4C has been appointed as its new Chairman. Huw Jones will begin the four-year appointment on tomorrow, Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has announced. The appointment follows a scrutiny hearing held jointly by the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee and the Welsh Affairs Select Committee last month. Mr Jones was Chief Executive at the channel from 1994 to 2005 and has been a prominent figure in Welsh language music and media since the late 1960s. He is currently Chair of Portmeirion Ltd, a member of the Welsh Language Board and Deputy Chair of the Wales Employment and Skills Board. Welcoming Mr Jones to the role, Mr Hunt said: “Throughout his career he has shown great commitment to Welsh language broadcasting and his unique experience and understanding of S4C will stand him in good stead as he leads the organisation through this important stage of its history.”

Murder Investigation Launched In Fulham

A murder investigation has been launched following a stabbing in Fulham. Police were called at around 1.50am today to reports of a man stabbed in a park area off Lillie Road in south west London. London Ambulance Service also attended and took the victim, aged in his 30s, to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police are in the process of informing next of kin. A post mortem examination will take place at Fulham Mortuary in due course. At this early stage it is believed that the victim was in the park area with friends when they were approached by a group of men and an altercation occurred. No further details are available at this time but it is believed the groups were unknown to each other. The group may have left the scene in the direction of the West Kensington Estate. Enquiries are underway by the Homicide and Serious Crime Command. There have been no arrests made. Detective Chief Inspector Nick Scola said: "We are at the initial stages of our inquiry and will be working closely with the borough officers and the local community whilst we carry out our investigations. If anyone has any information about this incident, or was in the area at the time and saw or heard something suspicious, I would ask them to contact police."

Police Appeal Following Tulse Hill Murder

Police are appealing for witnesses after the murder of an 18-year-old man in Lambeth. Officers were called just after 11.00pm on Monday, 6 June, following reports of a male shot outside Purser House, Tulse Hill Estate in south west London. Police attended and found a male suffering from gun shot wounds. London Ambulance and HEMS attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's next of kin have been informed but no formal identification has been made. A post-mortem examination is due to take place today at Greenwich Mortuary. At this early stage witnesses have told police that they heard several gunshots and a vehicle leaving the scene.

An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Gordon Allison from Trident. DCI Allison said: "We would urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything between the hours of 21.30hrs and 23.00hrs, or seen a suspicious vehicle in the area at the time of this murder, to contact us and assist us in this investigation." There have been no arrests at present. Enquiries continue.

East London Murder Appeal
Detectives have appealed for information about the murder of a woman in Manor Park. Aliza Ahmed Mirza, 18, a student from Ilford, died on Saturday 3 April. Police had been called to reports of a collapsed female. It is believed she was stabbed while in the Forest View Road area. Miss Mirza was taken to hospital but later pronounced dead.

Arrests Follow Edmonton Murder
Police investigating the murder of 15-year old Negus McLean in Edmonton have today made a further two arrests. A 14-year old boy, and a 16-year old boy, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. Police were called at 7.25pm on Sunday 10 April to reports of a stabbing in Westminster Road, north London.

Father Appeals Over Paralysed Son's Shooting
The father of a teenager paralysed in a shooting incident has joined investigating officers to urge witnesses to come forward. Speaking from his son's hospital bedside Paul Smith said he knew people had information about those who shot and injured Raphael Smith, but couldn't understand why they had not spoken to police.

Police Hunt Following Teen Murder
Police are appealing for information following a murder in Southwark. Teenager Lyle Tulloch, from Peckham was stabbed at Newall House in Harper Road on Saturday. Lyle, 15, was confirmed dead at the scene despite efforts from emergency services. A post mortem gave the cause of death as stab wounds and haemorrhaging.

600 New Properties Announced For South Wales
A housing association operating across south Wales is to build 600 new properties over the next two years. United Welsh borrowed £50m from M&G Investments to fund the developments.
