Woman Charged With Forest Hill Murder

Detectives have this morning charged a woman with the murder of a man found dead in Forest Hill. Karen Otmani, 40, of Stanstead Road in south east London is charged with the murder of Shaun Corey, 42. She will appear in custody at Greenwich Magistrates later today. Police attended a residential address in Forest Hill on Wednesday 15 June, after receiving a call from a member of the public. Detectives found the body of a man. A post-mortem examination started yesterday at Greenwich Mortuary and has yet to decide on cause of death. Further tests are awaited. The man's next-of-kin have been informed and an incident room has opened. Three people were arrested in connection with the inquiry. A 58-year-old man has been bailed until a date in August and a 40-year-old woman is charged as above.

New Crown Court Facilities In Amersham Unveiled

At the courthouse in Amersham, new Crown Court facilities were officially opened today by the Honourable Mr Justice Fulford. The two courtrooms at the former Magistrates' Court have been converted into Crown courtrooms in order to create greater flexibility in the way court services are provided locally. Amersham court house will now operate principally as a Crown Court satellite to support the substantial workload at nearby Aylesbury Crown Court. The public areas and custody suite at the court have also been refurbished and improved. Jonathan Lane, Area Director for HMCTS Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Thames Valley, said: “These new facilities demonstrate our commitment to ensuring that local court users have access to a first class criminal justice system. The Crown Court at Amersham will help to ensure that cases are heard more quickly due to better facilities and the extra resources it provides. The new facilities will also provide better protection for vulnerable witnesses and victims and more flexible use of courtrooms.”

Awards Highlight Excellence In Military Healthcare

The fourth annual Military and Civilian Health Partnership Awards (MCHPA) were launched today by the Rt Hon Andrew Robathan, Minister for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans. He visited the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHBFT), in partnership with the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine. Present at the launch were members of the Military Operational Surgical Training (MOST) team who won the MCHPA Education and Training Award in 2010. Leading the MOST team was Surg Capt Mark Midwinter, who was awarded the CBE for his for his exceptional contribution to the development of military surgery, in particular battlefield trauma in the Birthday Honours list 2011. During the visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Minister was accompanied by the Chief Executive of the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, Julie Moore, and the Surgeon General, Surgeon Vice Admiral Philip I Raffaelli. The awards are open to civilian and military health and social care staff working within Defence Medical Services, the health service and the private or voluntary sectors. They highlight and celebrate the exceptional care for the Forces across all professional disciplines and settings, as well as highlighting the close partnership with Britain's military and civilian health and social care workers.

Woman Denies Causing The Death Of Her Sister
A woman from Bridlington has pleaded not guilty to causing the death of her sister in a car collision. Rosie-Ann Stone, 20, to a charge of causing the death of Jennie Stone by careless driving at Hull Crown Court today. Stone was prosecuted after her sister's car struck a tree on the A165. She died of fatal head injuries.

Taxi Driver Pleads Guilty To Murder Of Sian O'Callaghan
A taxi driver has pleaded guilty to the murder of Sian O'Callaghan who went missing after visiting a nightclub in Swindon in March last year. 48-year-old Christopher Halliwell, of Ashbury Avenue, sexually assaulted the 22-year-old office worker and stabbed her in the head and neck.
