Witnesses To Violent Assault Sought

Three months after a 59-year old man was left unconscious following an assault in Piccadilly Circus, officers from Westminster Serious Violence Team have today issued seven photos of members of the public who were in the area at the time of the attack.

The seven CCTV images are taken from cameras in the area surrounding Ripley's 'Believe it or Not Exhibition' in Piccadilly Circus, where the victim was attacked at approximately 3.15am in the early hours of Saturday, 2 April.

The victim was by the traffic lights outside the exhibition when he was attacked. A witness, who was identified with the support of the local community, told police he saw the victim at that time in conversation with a man who then attacked the victim throwing him to the floor using what was described as a martial arts move. He then subsequently made off up Coventry Street towards Leicester Square.

Witnesses called the London Ambulance Service (LAS) who found the victim unconscious on the opposite side of Shaftesbury Avenue outside the exhibition. LAS informed police who then attended the scene.

The victim was taken to a central London hospital where he was treated for a fractured skull and a cut to his left eyelid. He returned home from hospital after several weeks.

No arrests have been made in connection with this incident.

Anyone with information should call the investigation team.
