Man Found Guilty Of Knifepoint Rapes
A man has been found guilty of knifepoint rapes and robberies on female escorts in west London.
Christopher Shepherd, 31, unemployed and of no fixed address, was today found guilty at Isleworth Crown Court,
During a three week trial, the court heard how on the 4 April 2010, Shepherd made pre-arranged appointments with two escort agencies in Chelsea for the 7 and 8 January 2011, during which he carried out attacks on three women in their 20s.
On both days, Shepherd, who initially presented himself as a client under a false name of 'Philip', pulled out a knife then threatened and demanded valuables from the women escorts. He then went on to rape and sexually assault them at knifepoint.
During the last attack on the 8 January, a victim was able to fight Shepherd off, which gave her the chance to run away into the street where passers-by raised the alarm.
Following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service Sapphire Unit, Shepherd was arrested at an address in Worcester Road, Sutton, on 14 January 2011 on suspicion of rape and robbery.
Shepherd was later charged on 25 January 2011 with three counts of rape, robbery, and two counts of sexual assault and possessing a bladed article. He was remanded into custody.
A previous and separate charge of attempted robbery on a female escort in Westminster, which occurred in April 2010, was subsequently joined to the above offences.
Shepherd is due to be sentenced on a date in September.
