Applications Close For Met Police Commissioner
The deadline for applications for the Metropolitan Police Commissioner job has now passed.
The closing time for applications to replace Sir Paul Stephenson, who resigned last month over the News International phone hacking scandal, was midday today.
Strathclyde Police Chief Constable Stephen House, Acting Met Commissioner Tim Godwin, President of the Association of Chief Police Officers Sir Hugh Orde and former Merseyside police chief Bernard Hogan-Howe are all believed to be in the running for the position.
Home Secretary Theresa May has ruled out the possibility of a foreigner taking on the job, following speculation that former New York and Los Angeles police chief Bill Bratton could be in the running for the post. Mr Bratton has recently been appointed as an advisor to the Government.
Mr House is strongly tipped to be the frontrunner, having previously served as an Assistant Commissioner with the Met in 2005.
The new Commissioner will be appointed by the Queen on the Home Secretary's recommendation.
