Man Charged With Derby Murder

Police investigating the murder of 43-year-old Derby man Johnny Assani, have charged a 33-year-old Derby man with murder. Mr Assani was suffered serious injuries when he was assaulted on Walbrook Road in the city on Sunday afternoon. He died in the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham on Monday. The 33-year-old man is due to appear at Derby and South Derbyshire Magistrates' Court later. Police have also been granted more time to continue questioning two men, both aged 32, who were arrested on Tuesday morning in connection with the death.

Man Jailed For Aggravated Burglary And Assault

A man has been jailed after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary and common assault in Derby. David Garfoot, 32, of Meadow Road, Clay Cross, went to a property in Woodthorpe Avenue, Holmgate around 1:30am on July 9, armed with a hammer and hatchet. The victim, a 27-year-old woman, who knew Garfoot, opened the door and he forced his way inside. There was a struggle and the woman managed to get outside and call for help. Garfoot then used the hammer to smash a glass pane in the front door and the victim's TV. Police arrived and arrested Garfoot nearby. He pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and common assault at Derby Crown Court and was jailed for 32 months.

Appeal Over Missing Mother And Baby

Police have appealed for information about a 20-year-old woman and her three-month-old daughter who have been missing since August 16. Zarina Ilyas and her daughter Karina Ilyas were last seen at 10:05pm on August 16 in Eton Avenue, Wembley. Zarina is 5 ft 5ins tall, of slim build, of Asian appearance, with dark brown/black hair. She was last seen wearing a black satin bomber jacket, blue jans and blue gladiator style strappy sandals. It is not known what Karina was wearing when she went missing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Brent Police.

Mick Philpott Denies Involvement In Fatal Fire
The father of six children who died in a house fire has denied starting the blaze at the families Derby home last May. 56-year-old Mick Philpott denies any involvement but has told a court he has suspicions about who started the fire. He alleges that he and his children had received death threats after the family appeared on ITV's Jeremy Kyle Show.

Man Charged With Son's Murder
A man is due to appear in court charged with the murder of his son. Police were called after the seven-month-old boy was taken into the Royal Derby Hospital on Tuesday. The boy from Waterford Drive, Derbyshire, was transferred to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he died on Wednesday night.

Man Arrested Over School Nail Bomb Attack
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing a nail bomb blast outside a school in Merseyside. The blast happened at Runnymede St Edwards school in West Derby last Friday, as pupils were leaving school for the weekend. The nail bomb had been left in a Nissan Micra belonging to a teacher at the school. No one was injured in the incident.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.
