Hacking Committee To Recall James Murdoch
The son of News International boss Rupert Murdoch is to be recalled to the culture committee to give further evidence on phone hacking, its chairman has said.
The decision comes over a month after MPs voted against recalling the News International chairman James Murdoch to give more evidence on the phone hacking scandal.
However, MPs heard conflicting evidence last week over how much Mr Murdoch knew about the practice at one of News International's papers.
The decision, announced by the committee's chairman John Whittingdale on Tuesday, is believed to be linked to assertions by former News Group Legal Manager Tom Crone, and former Editor of News of the World, Colin Myler, who gave evidence to the committee on September 6 that James Murdoch was aware of an email he had earlier claimed no knowledge of.
Both said they were "certain" Mr Murdoch was aware of what has been called the "For Neville email" which allegedly includes a transcript of 15 messages from Gordon Taylor's mobile phone voicemail and a transcript of 17 messages left by him on an associate's phone.
