Sarkozy Tells Cameron To 'Shut Up' At Euro Summit

David Cameron has been told to "shut up" by the French President during a furious row at the EU summit in Brussels on Sunday.

According to the Guardian, an enraged Mr Sarkozy told the British Prime Minister that he had "lost a good opportunity to shut up", during a raucous exchange over a disagreement about attendees to another meeting on Thursday.

Mr Sarkozy's outburst revealed his frustration with The Conservative Government's regular speeches about the single-currency.

The row erupted after Mr Sarkozy insisted a follow-up meeting on Wednesday should be restricted to just 17 eurozone leaders.

At one point the French president told Mr Cameron: "We are sick of you criticising us and telling us what to do. You say you hate the euro and now you want to interfere in our meetings."

However, Mr Cameron got his way to ensure all 27 member states would be at the meeting.

According to EU officials, Mr Sarkozy complained he was sick of reading about advice from Mr Cameron and his Chancellor in the newspapers. He said George Osborne had been present on Saturday for the agreement on strengthening banks - an issue which affects all 27 countries, although Britain will not need to take action.

On Sunday morning, the leaders of all the European Union's 27 members held talks about the Greek debt crisis, recapitalising banks, and bolstering the bailout fund.

This was followed in the afternoon by a separate meeting of the 17 nations that use the euro.
