Driver Dies In Surrey Police Chase

A motorist has died after a crash on the M25 in Surrey after police attempted to stop the vehicle.

The silver BMW collided with an articulated lorry at 11.35pm on Monday near junction 11 for Chertsey, according to Surrey Police.

The BMW driver was pronounced dead at the scene but the lorry driver was uninjured.

The M25 was shut clockwise at junctions 10-11 but reopened at 7am.

The incident has been referred by the force to the police complaints watchdog.

Police said they had attempted to stop the vehicle shortly before the collision.

The driver of the BMW pronounced dead at the scene has not yet been formally identified.

Meanwhile, police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was knocked over in Newcastle.

The incident was reported at 7.45am on Tuesday, after a 21-year-old woman was struck by a car at Bedeburn Road in Newbiggin Hall. She has been taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury, where she is currently in a serious condition.

The road is currently closed from the junction with Trevelyan Drive to St Mary's Court and a diversion is in place while enquiries into the incident continue.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191.

PC Jailed Over Schoolgirl's Crash Death
A police officer who caused the death of a teenage girl by dangerous driving, has been jailed for three years. Hayley Adamson, 16, was killed when she stepped out into the path of PC John Dougal's car in Newcastle's Denton Road on 19 May last year. Major Police Hunt Launched After Boy Taken From Hospital
A major police hunt has begun after a five-year-old boy with a brain tumour, was taken by his family without consent from Southampton General Hospital. Police said that Ashya King was taken from the hospital by Brett King, 51, and Naghemeh King, 45, on Thursday. It is thought he may have been taken to France.

Riot Police Deployed As G8 Protesters Occupy Former Police Station
