Another Arrest In Police Bribery Op

A 52-year-old serving police officer has been arrested as part of the ongoing operation into alleged corrupt payments to police.

The woman was arrested at a property in Essex and is being held by officers conducting Operation Elveden. They arrested the serving Met officer on suspicion of misconduct in a public office.

A total of eight people have been arrested under Operation Elveden.

The operation is an investigation into allegations of inappropriate payments to police, being supervised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

The investigation is led by Deputy Assistant Commissioner Sue Akers of the Metropolitan Police Service, who is also leading Operation Weeting and Operation Tuleta.

The service's Directorate of Professional Standards is also involved in the investigation.

The arrests made so far include a journalist who works for News International, who was arrested and taken to a southwest London police station on November 4.

He was later identified by the media as Jamie Pyatt of the Sun.

66-Year-Old Fugitive Hands Himself Into Netherlands Police
A 66-year-old man from Essex, sentenced to 14 years in his absence for drug trafficking offences, has handed himself in to authorities in the Netherlands. James Tarrant, who featured in the multi-agency Operation Return appeal to track down suspected or convicted criminals on the run, is the second fugitive to walk into a police station this month.
