Former Police Officer Admits Selling Information
A former police officer has admitted to selling information to the newspaper The Sun.
According to the BBC, 30-year-old James Bowes is now facing jail after he pleaded guilty to one count of misconduct in public office.
Mr Bowes was a police sergeant on the Sussex Police neighbourhood policing team. He was accused of passing on details of three high-profile investigations in 2010, in return for £500.
As part of Operation Elveden, Scotland Yard's investigation into alleged corrupt payments to public officials, Bowes is the fourth police officer to be convicted.
He was released on unconditional bail, but Mr Justice Fulford said it was "no indication of disposal".
No details of the case were given during the short hearing. Sentencing is expected on 9 May.
More than 60 people have been arrested as part of Operation Elveden, which is being run alongside two other police investigations – Operation Weeting (which is an inquiry into alleged phone hacking) and Operation Tuleta (an investigation into computer hacking and other privacy breaches).
