Met Police Choppers Join Twitter
London's residents can now find out what the MPS Helicopters are up to, thanks to the launch of the Air Support Unit's official Twitter account.
@MPSinthesky got off the ground last Tuesday and captured 1,000 followers within hours of going live. Since then, the Twitter account has propelled higher and higher with over 3,000 people now catching up on what the MPS Helicopters have been up to.
Hundreds more followers have been added everyday as @MPSinthesky tweets out about vehicle pursuits, catching burglars, armed suspects and much much more.
Inspector Phil Whitelaw head of Air Support Unit said: "This is a terrific way to use social media and keep Londoners informed of the amazing work that is performed by the Air Support Unit, which works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
"The response so far has been very positive and I'm certain @MPSinthesky will play a vital role in helping Londoners understand why we were- or are - working in a particular area.
"I am confident our twitter posts will play an important role in raising the profile of our work and in working to reduce complaints."
Londoners have been overwhelming supportive of the ASU twitter posts. Some of their comments have been posted below: "Horray! @mpsinthesky is on twitter. Now I won't have to wonder what in the world they are doing up there.

"This must be one of the most fascinating twitter accounts in the UK

To get MPS Helicopter tweets you will need to sign up to Twitter then search for @MPSinthesky to follow the activities of the ASU.

Plans Announced To Make Young People Work For Benefits
The Prime Minister has announced a proposal for 18 to 21-year-olds claiming benefits to do daily work experience. The proposed reform, known as Community Work Programme, would see young people not in work, education or training, required to complete daily work experience, alongside continuing to look for work in order to qualify for benefits.

Queen Sends First Ever Tweet
The Queen has sent her first ever tweet to open a new gallery at the Science Museum in London. The tweet read: ‘It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R.’ The queen posted it from the @BritishMonarchy twitter account in front of 600 guests.

Twitter 'Troll' Found Dead In Hotel Room
A woman who allegedly abused the parents of Madeline McCann on Twitter has been found dead at a hotel in Leicestershire. Brenda Leyland, 63, wrote hate messages aimed at the McCanns, whose daughter disappeared while on holiday in Portugal in 2007. Ms Leyland was exposed by Sky News reported Martin Brunt as one of the people behind the campaign.

PM Describes Apparent James Foley Video As 'Shocking And Depraved'
The apparent beheading of a US journalist has been described as "shocking and depraved" by the Prime Minister. Mr David Cameron made the comment on Twitter following the news of a video that purportedly shows an Islamic State (IS) militant beheading journalist James Foley. Mr Foley has been missing since he was kidnapped in Syria 2012.
