BBC Presenter In Court Over Child Abuse
A former BBC radio presenter has appeared in court over accusations of sexual abuse against children.
Michael Souter, 59, of Loddon, Norfolk is a former BBC Radio Norfolk presenter.
He is charged with 18 offences against boys and against a man and a woman.
The charges include serious sexual offences and indecent assault.
They relate to six boys, among them under-14s.
Norfolk Police said the offences date back to between 1979 and 1999 and happened in Norfolk.
Mr Souter will appear again at Norwich Crown Court on 14 December. His passport had previously been confiscated under bail conditions but has been returned to him.
No restrictions on foreign travel have been placed.
He is forbidden from any contact with under-16s without the presence of an adult.
Mr Souter worked for BBC Radio Norfolk throughout the 1980s and part of the 90s.
Outside the court, Mr Souter said: "I am well aware this case is a stressful experience for almost everybody concerned, not just me.
"Irrespective of innocence or guilt, people have judged me before one word has been given in evidence in a court of law.
"Many people wonder how much coverage would have been given, both in the UK and around the world, if the letters 'BBC' had not formed part of my CV.
"The support of my friends and family, during what has been an extremely difficult period, has been overwhelming and humbling and I cannot thank them enough for their support."
