Memorial Service Held For Hoax Call Nurse
A memorial service has been held at the King Edward VII hospital for the nurse who took a hoax call regarding the Duchess of Cambridge.
Jacintha Saldanha was found dead last Friday, three days after she took a prank call from two Australian radio DJs.
The two presenters rang the hospital pretending to be Royals inquiring about the health of the duchess.
Mrs Saldanha believed the call was genuine, and the station was subsequently provided with information as to the duchess’s condition. The duchess is in the early stages of pregnancy, and was receiving treatment for morning sickness.
An inquest heard that Mrs Saldanha was found hanged. The nurse was a 46-year-old wife and mother of two.
Labour MP Keith Vaz is campaigning on behalf of the family.
He has written to the hospital calling for it to release details of the incident.
In a statement, the hospital said: "We are continuing to support the family in a number of ways."
A memorial service will take place in Mrs Saldana’s hometown of Bristol at St Teresa's Church at 18.00 GMT.
