Manager Charged In Connection With Gleision Colliery Disaster
A mine manager has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the deaths of four miners in the Gleision colliery disaster.
The disaster at the mine in Swansea Valley happened on September 15 2011 and claimed the lives of 50-year-old David Powell, Charles Breslin, 62, Philip Hill, 44, and Garry Jenkins, 39.
57-year-old mine manager Malcolm Fyfield has been charged with four counts of gross negligence manslaughter and will appear at Neath Magistrates Court on 1 February.
MNS Mining Ltd, the company which owns the colliery, has also been summonsed on four counts of corporate manslaughter.
Mr Fyfield was also seriously injured in the incident but escaped through an old mine shaft.

Man Arrested Over Gleision Colliery Deaths
A 55-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of four miners in Wales in September. Police have not named the man arrested but the BBC said it understood the man is Gleision mine manager, Malcolm Fyfield. He is in custody at Port Talbot police station.

British Man Killed In Costa Rica Catamaran Disaster
Three people have died after a boat capsized in Costa Rica. An 80-year-old British man, a Canadian and an American woman were killed. The boat was carrying 98 passengers and 10 crew members. 101 people were saved by rescuers, however they are still searching for two people.

Engineering firm pleads guilty to Hatfield safety breach
Engineering firm Balfour Beattie has pleaded guilty to the charge that it breached safety standards before the Hatfield train disaster, in which four people died. The change of plea comes after the company, and five of its managers, were cleared of corporate manslaughter charges last week.
