Lindsay Sandiford Sentenced To Death In Bali
A 56-year-old Linda Sandiford, found guilty of drug trafficking in Indonesia, has been sentenced to death.
Bali police arrested the British grandmother in May 2012 after the discovery of 4.8kg (10.6lb) of cocaine in the lining of her suitcase following a routine customs check.
Sandiford was was held after a flight from Bangkok, Thailand, and has claimed she was coerced into bringing the drugs to the island.
Her lawyers have expressed their surprise at the verdict and said they would appeal.
Despite prosecutors recommendation of a 15-year sentence of imprisonment judges said there were no mitigating circumstances and the defendant did not appear to care about the consequences of her actions.
They went on to say Sandiford had damaged the image of Bali as a tourism destination and weakened the government's anti-drugs programme.
