Man Found Shot Dies

A man has died after being found shot in a street in Dartmoor.

The 32-year-old, who has not been properly identified, died from his injuries.

He was found with bullet wounds in Overy Street at about 20:00 on Tuesday.

A 24-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, both from Dartford, have been arrested and are currently in custody.

Police Investigate Edinburgh Church Fire

Police are investigating a fire which destroyed a disused church in Edinburgh.

The cause of the fire at the church in Stanley Place in the Abbeyhill area has yet to be established.

The building caught fire at about 17:15 on Monday.

40 fire-fighters were called to tackle the blaze, which disrupted rush-hour traffic in the east of Edinburgh.

No-one was injured in the incident.

Man Missing After River Wye Fall

Gwent Police are searching for a man who was seen falling into the River Wye in Monmouthshire.

The incident occurred at 14:46 on Tuesday in Chepstow.

A major search operation was launched.

The search was stopped temporarily on Tuesday evening but resumed on Wednesday morning.

Hearing Granted Over Life Sentence

A man sentenced to life in prison for attacking a tourist who later died has been granted a hearing over the minimum length of his sentence.

40-year-old Colin Ross was found guilty of attempted murder after attacking American teacher Marty Layman-Mendonca in July 2006.

It has been argued the 20 years minimum limit was excessive.

The case will now go to a full hearing.

Appeal After Man Found In Burning Car
Police are appealing for information concerning the death of a man found in a burning car. Officers were called to reports of a car on fire at Mowlem Trading Estate, near to Leeside Road, N17, shortly after 1:00am on 17 December 2008. The London Fire Brigade were in attendance extinguishing the fire when they discovered a person inside.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.

April Jones Killer To Appeal Sentence
Mark Bridger, the man given a whole life sentence for the murder of five-year-old April Jones, is to appeal his sentence, the Judicial Office has reported. In May 47-year-old Bridger was convicted of the murder of April Jones, who went missing from outside her home in Machynlleth on 01 October 2012.
