Beatles ‘Mentor’ Tony Sheridan Dies Aged 72
Tony Sheirdan, described as the Beatles “mentor” has died aged 72.
As the Silver Beatles the group performed as Sheirdan’s backing band while in Hamburg during the 1960s.
Described as a catalyst in the Beatles' rise to fame, they played on Sheridan's recording of My Bonnie.
According to reports in the German media, Sheridan died on Saturday 16 February following a long illness.
During his later years, Sheridan lived with his third wife, Anna Sievers, in a farm house in the north of Germany. She died of cancer in 2011.
Dead Whale Washes Up On Scottish Beach
A dead fin whale has washed up on the shore in southern Scotland.
Dumfries and Galloway Council staff are helping to deal with the incident at Wigtown Bay, near Carsluith.
The fin whale is estimated to be about 49ft (15m) in length.
In a short statement, the council said the autopsy would be carried out before work began to dispose of the carcass.
Brecon Beacon’s Night Sky Granted Special Protection
The night sky above the Brecon Beacons National Park has been granted special protection.
Only the fifth destination in the world, and Wales first, to be granted the status of an international dark sky reserve.
The park society and the national park authority began their bid in 2011.
Jim Wilson, Chair of Brecon Beacons Park Society, said it recognised the area as one of the best places in Europe "to truly see dark skies".

BA Bosses Clear Sheridan Theft Allegations
BA bosses have cleared the wife of former Scottish Socialist MSP Tommy Sheridan of theft allegations. Gail Sheridan, 44, was suspended from her job as British Airways cabin crew in February after accusations that she had taken alcohol miniatures. A disciplinary hearing on Wednesday found that the mother-of-one was innocent.

Park Death Boy Died From 'Head Injuries'
A post mortem has found that a teenager beaten to death in a public park died from head injuries. Seventeen-year-old Amar Aslam was found in a West Yorkshire park on Sunday evening by two passers-by. Emergency services were called to Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury at around 7.00pm but Amar was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Investigate Toddler Pond Death
Police are continuing to investigate the tragic death of a three-year-old boy who drowned in a garden pond in Birmingham. It is reported the toddler was found floating face down and unconscious in the water at the back of a house in Moseley on Saturday.

Six Arrested Over Nottingham Street Brawl Death
Police investigating the death of a 19-year-old man in Nottingham have arrested six people. Joshua Bradley, of Bulwell, died following a suspected street fight in Thurland Street, on 08 February. Two men, aged 21 and 19, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
