Stuart Hall Rape Trial Given Provisional Date

83-year-old broadcaster Stuart Hall has appeared in court to face a charge of rape and 14 charges of indecent assault.

During the preliminary hearing, which lasted just eight minutes, Hall, from Wilmslow, Cheshire, spoke only to confirm his name.

The charges relate to alleged offences between 1967 and 1986.

Mr Hall is best known for his distinctive style of sports reporting on BBC Radio 5 live and his work on the 1970s TV show It's A Knockout.

He has been a familiar face and voice in British broadcasting for half a century and was appointed OBE in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to broadcasting and charity.

The case was adjourned until 16 April when he is expected to enter a plea. A provisional trial date has been set for 2 October.

Stuart Hall Appears In Court
Broadcaster Stuart Hall has appeared at Preston Crown Court in relation to charges of sexual offences. The 83-year-old, from Wilmslow, Cheshire, appeared before Judge Anthony Russell QC, who adjourned the hearing and bailed Mr Hall. A date for a further appearance was set for 2 May at the same court.

Police Appeal After Woman Repeatedly Attacked By Same Man
Merseyside Police have appealed for help in tracing a man wanted in connection with a number of assaults on the same woman in St Helens. Police said the first incident occurred at about 23:00 on Sunday, 06 September when a woman was approached by a man on Nutgrove Hall Drive, Thatto Heath.

Cockenzie Power Station To Be Demolished
Details regarding the demolition of the former Cockenzie Power Station site have been released. A controlled explosive demolition will take place at noon on Saturday 26 September which will involve the twin chimney stacks at the site being razed to the ground.

Queen To Attend Women's Institute Centenary Meeting
Members of the Women's Institute (WI) will be joined by the Queen at the centenary annual meeting in London. The meeting will take place at the Royal Albert Hall later today 4 June. The Queen became a WI member in 1943 and will attend the event with the Princess Royal and Countess of Wessex.

Two Collisions At Same Scene In Northumberland
Police have appealed for witnesses following two separate collisions at the same spot in Seaton Deleval, Northumberland, on Thursday night. It is understood that a car left the A192 at about 22:05 last night. As police responded to the incident a second car is said to have also crashed at the same scene at about 22:45.
