Officer Urges Abandoned Baby Mother To Seek Help
A police officer named after a baby she found abandoned on a bench in Edinburgh has urged the child's mother to seek medical help.
PC Charlotte Work brought the day-old baby girl to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after she was discovered on a bench in Hailesland Park at 13:00 on Thursday afternoon.
The child was found behind the stairwell to Kilncroft flats. She was clean and wrapped in a blanket.
Medical staff are urging the mother to come forward as she may need medical care.
Staff at the hospital have named the baby Charlotte after the police officer. Reports say the child is doing well in hospital.
PC Work is to be reunited with the baby again today, as the search goes on to find her mother.
She said: "I am delighted that baby Charlotte is doing well and that there are no concerns for her health. As part of my duties it was important that an officer accompanied the child to the hospital, but it is very flattering that the staff chose to name her after me.
"What is more important, however, is for us to trace Charlotte's mother and ensure she receives all the necessary medical attention and support she requires.
"I would urge her to get in touch with her doctor, attend at hospital or contact police so we can make sure she is safe and well."
