Six-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Sir Chris Hoy Retires
Six-time Olympic gold medalist Chris Hoy has announced he is to retire from cycling, ending speculation that he would compete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Hoy, who won two gold medals in London alongside11 world titles, said: "I wanted to get a medal for Scotland. I didn't think I could so wanted someone else to take my place.
"It's a decision that I didn't take lightly and I thought about it very hard. In sport at the highest level you are dealing in the smallest margins and you can tell when you are good but not good enough."

Lewis Hamilton has been named 2014 BBC Sports Personality Of The Year. Kenny Dalglish and Jonny Wilkinson presented him with the award at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow. In second place was Rory McIlroy, and athlete Jo Pavey came third.

British Photographer Killed In Libya
An award-winning British photographer has been killed in Misrata. It is believed Tim Hetherington, 40, was killed in a rocket-propelled grenade attack while covering the conflict in Libya. An American photographer, Chris Hondros, 41, was also killed, and two others were injured in the attack.

Rebecca Adlington Retires From Swimming
Two-time Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington has retired from swimming. At the age of 23 the 2010 double Commonwealth Games gold medallist will stop swimming competitively. The Mansfield-born swimmer will not defend her titles in Glasgow next year. Adlington had victories in the 400m and 800m freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Olympic Post Boxes To Remain Gold
Post boxes painted gold during the summer to celebrate the gold medals of the British Olympic and Paralympics teams are to remain so on a permanent basis. The Royal Mail made the announcement today that the 110 gold post boxes across the UK will not be re-painted in the traditional red colour.
