Controversial Labour Peer Resigns Ahead Of Hearing
Controversial Labour peer Lord Ahmed has resigned from the party.
Lord Ahmed had been suspended from the party and was being investigated following allegations that he had blamed a jail term for dangerous driving on a Jewish conspiracy.
According to the Guardian, it was alleged that Lord Ahmed was caught on camera blaming his prison sentence – for sending text messages shortly before his car was involved in a fatal crash – on pressure placed on the courts by "Jewish friends who own newspapers and TV channels".
He has resigned ahead of a disciplinary hearing to start on Wednesday. The newspaper reported him as saying he was concerned that the Labour party was proceeding with the hearing, "on the basis of incredible and untested evidence".
Adding: "That indeed leads me to believe the decision might have already been made."
