Bomb Plot Accused Made 'Martyrdom Videos'
Several men accused of plotting to blow up passenger planes during transatlantic flights filmed Islamic martyrdom videos.
The jury at Woolwich Crown Court were shown footage and read transcripts from some of the videos recorded by the suspects.
One video featured a man described as defendant Abdul Ahmed Ali saying: "Now the time has come for you to be destroyed."
Another video, which features a man said to be defendant Umar Islam, continues the claim: "This is revenge for the actions of the USA and their accomplices, such as the British and the Jews."
Peter Wright, QC, prosecuting, said that the videos showed that the defendants were contemplating losing their lives in "some violent act" in the name of Islam.
Eight men - Abdul Ahmed Ali aka Ahmed Ali Khan, 27, of Walthamstow; Assad Sarwar, 27, of High Wycombe; Tanvir Hussain, 27, of Leyton; Mohammed Gulzar, 26, of Barking; Ibrahim Savant, 27, of Stoke Newington; Arafat Waheed Khan, 26, of Walthamstow; Waheed Zaman, 23, of Walthamstow and Umar Islam aka Brian Young, 29, of High Wycombe - are accused of plotting to murder others by detonating homemade suicide bombs, made from liquid explosives, on flights travelling from London to the US and Canada in 2006.
They are charged with conspiracy to commit murder and endangering aircraft. All eight deny the charges.
The plot was foiled by counter terrorist police and the discovery of the plot led to the subsequent ban on most liquids being carried onboard flights.
The trial continues.
