Sun’s Whitehall Editor To Be Charged

The Sun newspapers Whitehall editor, Clodagh Hartley, is to be charged with conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office.

The charges relate to payment for information including details of the government's 2010 deficit reduction plans.

Hartley was arrested and bailed in May 2012 by officers from Scotland Yard's Operation Elveden.

She is the sixth Sun journalist charged as a result of the investigation into alleged illegal payments by journalists to public officials.

Bus Depot Fire May Have Been Arson

A fire at a bus depot in Cornwall, which destroyed 35 buses from the Western Greyhound fleet, may have been arson, police have said.

The fire broke out in the depot in Summercourt, near Newquay, around 01:00 on Monday morning.

Devon and Cornwall Police wants anyone who may have seen "suspicious activity" in the area of the depot to contact them.

Man Crushed To Death By Herd Of Cows

A man has died and a second man has been injured after being trampled by a herd of cows in a field in Wiltshire.

According to the BBC, the men were walking near Winsley when they were crushed by the animals.

The injured man was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

£2m reward offered for £50m robbery gang
Police are hunting an armed gang that made off with around £50 million from a Kent security depot on Wednesday morning. The gang, described as "dangerous" by police, held the depot manager and his family hostage for more than six hours while the raid was being carried out.

Man arrested over Securitas depot robbery
Police investigating the £53 million robbery at the Securitas depot in Kent have arrested a 48-year-old man. The man was arrested at an address in Rochester and is being questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to rob. Kent police said that a number of premises were searched following the man's arrest.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Depot Fire Destroys 37 Buses
Some 37 buses have been destroyed in a fire overnight at a depot in Summercourt, Cornwall. It is understood that at least a third of the buses destroyed belonged to the Western Greyhound bus company, and is expected to cause “significant disruption” to services, according to the BBC.
