Speedboat Driver Not Wearing ‘Kill Cord’
An investigation into the death of a father and daughter in a speedboat accident has found that the driver was not wearing a ‘kill cord’.
The ‘kill cord’ is a safety measure which clips the driver to the boat and cuts the engine should they fall out.
Nick Milligan, 51, and daughter Emily, eight, were killed after they and the rest of their family were thrown out of their vessel near Padstow in Cornwall.
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said the unnamed driver was not using the vessel's kill cord.
Cyclist Wiggins Drops Out Of Giro d’Italia
A chest infection has caused British cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins to drop out of the Giro d’Itlaia, BBC Sport have reported.
The 33-year-old Team Sky rider will return to the UK today (Friday).
It is understood that he will aim to fit and well to compete in the Tour de France, which begins on June 29.
Puffin ‘Census’ Gets Underway
A “census” has begun in Northumberland to establish the number of puffins on the Farne Islands.
Over the next three months, National Trust rangers will survey how many breeding pairs of the birds live on the island.
The count takes place every five years. The last survey indicated numbers had fallen by a third.

Matab Uddin, 59, of Blackshots Lane, Essex was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and fraud. The court heard how police were called on Sunday, 17 November 2013 at about 1:45am to reports of a man injured on Essex Road.

Shrien Dewani Cleared Of Honeymoon Murder
Businessman Shrien Dewani has been cleared of taking part in the murder of his wife in South Africa. Judge Jeanette Traverso said the prosecution failed to put forward enough evidence to prove he had planned the murder. Anni Dewani, 28, was shot dead in Cape Town in November 2010. Mr Dewani, 34, always denied he had any part in the murder.
