Acid Attack Victims Due Back In UK
The two 18-year-old British women injured in an acid attack in Zanzibar are due to arrive back in the UK today.
Kirstie Trup and Katie Gee were in the last week of a volunteer teaching job they had taken on the east African island when they had acid thrown at them as they walked through Stone Town.
It is believed that two men on a moped attacked the young women with acid, splashing their faces, chests and hands. The motive for the attack is not yet known.
A statement issued by the women's families read: "Both families are extremely upset and distressed at this completely unprovoked attack on their lovely daughters who had only gone to Zanzibar with good intention.
"We appreciate all the interest and support we have received from the media but we would ask that we are left alone until we have been reunited with our daughters."
