Met Seek Approval For Joint Madeleine McCann Investigation Team
Agreement is being sought from the UK and Portuguese governments to establish a new "joint investigation team" to continue the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
The Metropolitan Police are seeking the agreement to set up the new team, saying that it would be more effective than the current "ad-hoc" approach.
Madeleine went missing from Praia da Luz, in the Algarve, in May 2007, and the recent move follows a renewed focus on the investigation into her disappearance.
Last month, police in Portugal reopened their investigation, with the country's attorney general saying that "new elements of evidence" had surfaced. The announcement came after an appeal aired on BBC One's Crimewatch programme. Some 2,400 responses are understood to have been prompted following the new appeal.
