Three Arrested On Suspicion Of Burglary
Three men have been arrested in Birmingham after a stolen car was "stung" by motorway police.
In the early hours of Monday morning, the car was heading towards the city centre.
Proactive police patrols ran system checks on the Ford Focus – understood to have been taken during a burglary on November 28 in Larkhill Walk, Druids Heath – after spotting it on the M6 just after midnight.
Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) and traffic patrols monitored the car's movement and deployed "stingers" to deflate its tyres as the trio turned off onto the A38M.
In a statement, West Midlands Police said two 21-year-old male passengers – one from Handsworth and the other of no fixed address – were arrested from the car as it ground to a halt. The driver, also 21 and from Handsworth, fled through a nearby housing estate but was arrested in Aston's Upper Sutton Street having been tracked by a police dog handler.
All three men are being questioned by detectives on suspicion of burglary and car theft.
Chief Superintendent Martin Evans, said: "No criminal can travel easy whilst using our road or motorway network: we have proactive patrols monitoring our region day and night on the lookout for vehicles linked to criminality.
"This is just the latest example where these patrols and the intuition of officers have led to a stolen car being identified and suspected thieves being arrested."
